Who are you with your friends? Who do you choose to surround yourself with? Why do you choose those people to be surrounded by? How do they impact you? Do they motivate you? Inspire you? Push you? Lift you up? Or do they discourage you? Hold you back? Bring you down?
We sure hope it’s the former.
Earlier this week we talked about bringing the energy, now we’re talking about that force field you surround yourself with. Real talk: we are constantly letting ourselves get sucked into the negative attitudes of the people around us, especially at work. It’s Friday afternoon and everyone is thinking about the end of the weekend—surround yourself with people who think Friday is the last leg of the race and strive to finish the week strong.
Have your ever been so excited about a new opportunity at your company and you start talking with coworkers who fail to match your excitement? They tell you everything that’s wrong, how terrible the organization is, how much they hate management, and you slowly find yourself agreeing. You think of everything that hasn’t gone your way or feel entitled to more money. You stop thinking about what the opportunity means for your future and achieving your goals. Your view becomes tainted with negativity.
But have you ever felt down after a bad day where nothing went your way, you woke up with a terrible case of the Mondays and started questioning why you’re even at your job and just want to quit? Your coworkers catch on to your mood and take it upon themselves to lift your spirits. They talk about how great the company is, how much they love their job, how great you’re doing, and the distance you’re going to go.
The difference between the two besides the obvious negative/positive nature of the coworkers? One rallies everyone to quit while the other energizes to build the company and the team. The question becomes: do you want to surround yourself with people who slack, complain, clock in and clock out, and don’t push themselves to be great let alone motivate others? Or do you want to be around people who are excited about the work they’re doing, are goal-oriented, refuse to be knocked down, come in early and stay late by choice, and aim to inspire those around them?
For the sake of your future, we really hope you choose the latter.
And don’t think this only refers to coworkers. We hope you surround yourself with friends who push you to be better and cheer you on. And here we have another of David’s Sweet 16: You Become Who You Surround Yourself With.
David believes when people who have the same big goals and hard-working mentality gather together, there will be big success. On the reverse side, he also believes when people who are unmotivated and lack passion gather, nothing good will come out of it. So the choice is yours: Who do you want to become? Who will you surround yourself with?
Want to surround yourself with people who have big goals? Perfect. We can help you—we want to help you. All you need to do is send us your resume. And if you’re already surrounded by people who pump you up, congratulations—you’re ahead of the game.
At the start of your day, do you want to surround yourself with the battery chargers or the battery drainers?
